About the Standard
What is PED Certification?
Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) 2014/68/EU sets out the essential safety requirements in respect of the design, manufacture, examination and assessment of the conformity of pressure equipment and pressure assemblies. It offers a system of guidelines for CE Marking, manufacturing process, traceability of materials, testing and technical documentation in line with the relevant EU legislation.
While being different from general product certification systems, PED 2014/68/EU focuses on pressure-retaining equipment operating above certain pressure levels. This includes pressure vessels, boilers, heat exchangers, pressure piping, safety accessories and assemblies by means of risk-based conformity assessment, authorized manufacture process, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and quality control procedures.
This directive is well-known among all sectors of industry including energy, chemical, oil & gas and process industries. PED 2014/68/EU proves technical expertise, CE Marking compliance and ability to manufacture pressure equipment according to the EU requirements.
Why It Matters
Essential Safety Compliance
Checks ESR compliance under PED.
Risk Based Conformity Assessment
Uses risk-based conformity assessment modules according to equipment risk category.
CE Marking Ready
Provides CE Marking on equipment provided in European market.
Quality Control Manufacturing
Controls design, fabrication, welding, inspection & testing processes.
Material Traceability
Traces pressure retaining material and manufacturing data.
Standard Requirements
Technical Requirements of PED 2014/68/EU
It states the important safety requirements that must be met for pressure equipment in terms of design, manufacturing, inspection, testing, and CE Marking.
Essential Safety Requirements
Ensure compliance with safety requirements of PED throughout design and manufacture of the equipment.
Conformity Assessment
Complete the necessary conformity assessment process by taking into account the equipment category.
CE Marking
Show the compliance of pressure equipment put on the European market.
Risk Classification
Categorize the equipment in terms of pressure, fluid type, and risk category.
Material Traceability
Guarantee material traceability of pressure retaining parts and components.
Inspection & NDT
Conduct inspections and Non-Destructive Testing of the equipment if necessary.
Technical Documentation
Provide the technical files and documentation of compliance.
European Market Access
Ensure regulatory compliance while exporting pressure equipment to Europe.
